چکیده

In this paper we address the problem of visual motion estimation (visual odometry) from a single vehicle mounted camera. One of the basic issues of visual odometry is relative scale estimation. We propose a method to compute locally optimal relative scales by minimizing the reprojection error using windowed bundle adjustment. We introduce a minimal parameterization of the bundle adjustment problem to get an efficient optimization procedure. We will present experimental results for scale estimation on challenging image data acquired by an onmidirectional camera mounted on a vehicle. The experiments show the high local accuracy of the scale and the robustness of the algorithm over long distances (∼1000m).

Closing the loop in appearance-guided omnidirectional visual odometry by using vocabulary trees

In this paper, we present a method that allows us to recover the trajectory of a vehicle purely from monocular omnidirectional images very accurately. The method uses a combination of appearance-guided structure from motion and loop closing. The appearance-guided monocular structure-from-motion scheme is used for initial motion estimation. Appearance information is used to correct the rotation ...

Reduction of Odometry Error in a two Wheeled Differential Drive Robot (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Pose estimation is one of the vital issues in mobile robot navigation. Odometry data can be fused with absolute position measurements to provide better and more reliable pose estimation. This paper deals with the determination of better relative localization of a two wheeled differential drive robot by means of odometry by considering the influence of parameters namely weight, velocity, wheel p...

Incorporating a Wheeled Vehicle Model in a New Monocular Visual Odometry Algorithm for Dynamic Outdoor Environments

This paper presents a monocular visual odometry algorithm that incorporates a wheeled vehicle model for ground vehicles. The main innovation of this algorithm is to use the single-track bicycle model to interpret the relationship between the yaw rate and side slip angle, which are the two most important parameters that describe the motion of a wheeled vehicle. Additionally, the pitch angle is a...

Improving the Egomotion Estimation by Correcting the Calibration Bias

We present a novel approach for improving the accuracy of the egomotion recovered from rectified stereoscopic video. The main idea of the proposed approach is to correct the camera calibration by exploiting the known groundtruth motion. The correction is described by a discrete deformation field over a rectangular superpixel lattice covering the whole image. The deformation field is recovered b...

Robust Monocular Visual Odometry for a Ground Vehicle in Undulating Terrain

Here we present a robust method for monocular visual odometry capable of accurate position estimation even when operating in undulating terrain. Our algorithm uses a steering model to separately recover rotation and translation. Robot 3DOF orientation is recovered by minimizing image projection error, while, robot translation is recovered by solving an NP-hard optimization problem through an ap...
